Key Assessment Criteria
1. Representative Matters and Track Record
We invite participating law firms and lawyers to submit highlights of their most significant work over the past 12 months, focusing on their performance in legal matters involving the high-tech sector. These may include major transactions, complex disputes, regulatory and compliance matters, intellectual property protection, and other significant engagements relevant to the technology industry.
Our assessment considers the complexity, innovative nature, and commercial significance of each matter, the lawyer's level of involvement, and the value delivered to the client. We also draw on publicly available market information and relevant industry data to develop a comprehensive assessment of each firm's and practitioner's capabilities and track record.
2. Client Feedback
Client feedback is a fundamental component of HTL's ranking research. Through interviews with technology company executives, in-house legal teams, and other corporate clients, we gather insights into the quality of legal services provided by participating firms and lawyers, with particular emphasis on professional expertise, responsiveness, commercial awareness, and overall service delivery.
We place particular importance on lawyers' ability to understand the business models and evolving needs of technology companies, provide practical legal solutions in complex commercial and regulatory environments, and build strong, lasting client relationships.
3. Peer Feedback
Legal professionals possess valuable firsthand knowledge of the legal services market and the capabilities of their peers. HTL conducts peer research among law firm partners and other senior legal practitioners, supplemented by telephone and face-to-face interviews, to gather informed perspectives on the expertise, professional reputation, and market performance of law firms and individual lawyers.
We pay particular attention to peer assessments of lawyers' specialist expertise, track records, and experience serving technology companies, using these insights to further inform our overall evaluations.
